  • Shays' Rebellion begins

    Daniel Shays, a Massachusetts farmer and Revolutionary War veteran, instigates an uprising in rural Massachusetts protesting the mounting financial strain imposed on farmers to pay off their war debts. Attracting over 800 followers, Shays' Rebellion lasts for the better part of one year, demonstrating the ineffectiveness of the central government.

  • Jones Act
