  • Abraham Lincoln born

    16th President Abraham Lincoln is born in Hodgenville, Kentucky. One of America's greatest leaders, Lincoln rose from childhood poverty to become an Illinois lawyer and U.S. Congressman. Elected to the presidency in 1860, Lincoln led the United States through the Civil War but was assassinated on April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C.

  • President Clinton acquitted

    President Bill Clinton is acquitted of perjury and obstruction of justice by the Senate following his impeachment by the House of Representatives. Senate Republicans failed to convict Clinton and he finished out his second term as president.
