  • Goliad massacre

    The Mexican Army executed 342 Texan prisoners at Goliad, a village in southern Texas. The Texan soldiers, led by James W. Fannin, has surrendered a week earlier at the Battle of Coleto, and over 70% were executed on the orders of General Santa Anna, the Mexican commander.

  • National Cherry Blossoms received

    Mayor Yukio Ozaki presents cherry tree saplings to First Lady Helen Taft on behalf of the city of Tokyo, a gift celebrating the continuing friendship between the United States and Japan. Mrs. Taft and Viscountess Chinda, the wife of the Japanese ambassador, would plant the first seeds north of the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park.
