  • Santa Anna captured

    Following the Battle of San Jacinto, Texan soldiers capture Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna, effectively ending the Texas Revolution. Texan commander Sam Houston would later sign two peace treaties with Santa Anna to secure Texan independence.

  • Oklahoma Land Rush begins

    The Oklahoma Land Rush begins at 12:00 noon as over 50,000 Americans crossed into Oklahoma to claim over two million acres of public land. Prior to the land run, many settlers, nicknamed "Sooners," crossed into Oklahoma to claim the prime settlements before the land was made available.
