  • Statue of Liberty arrives in New York Harbor

    Finally completed in Paris the summer before, the dismantled Statue of Liberty is shipped across the Atlantic Ocean and arrives in New York Harbor. The copper and iron figure, meant as a gift of friendship from France, will be reassembled and dedicated the following year.
