  • War of 1812 begins

    Congress approves a declaration of war against Great Britain, which is then signed by President James Madison. Nicknamed "Mr. Madison's War," the War of 1812 saw British and American forces clash in Canada, the former British colonies, and both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
