  • David Farragut born

    United States Naval officer David Farragut is born in Campbell's Station, Tennessee. The son of a Revolutionary War captain, Farragut saw his first naval combat during the War of 1812, serving aboard the USS Essex. Farragut became the first American promoted to Admiral after the Civil War, where his fleets captured the ports of New Orleans, Port Hudson, and Mobile.

  • Battle of Osan

    American and North Korean soldiers clash for the first time during the Korean War at the Battle of Osan. The battle, fought south of Seoul, the South Korean capital, saw an American battalion overwhelmed by a North Korean force ten times its size.
