    43rd President George W. Bush is born in New Haven, Connecticut. The first child of future President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush, he served as the Governor of Texas before being elected to the presidency in 2000 during one of the tightest presidential elections. Following the September 11 attacks and the launch of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, Bush was re-elected in 2004.

  • First Midsummer Classic

    The American League wins the first Major League Baseball All-Star game, defeating the National League 4-2 in Comiskey Park. Chicago hosted the "Midsummer Classic" in concert with its A Century of Progress International Exposition, a world's fair celebrating its centennial.
