  • Spy Jonathan Pollard captured

    Jonathan Pollard is arrested for espionage after passing classified Naval intelligence to Israel. Pollard, a civilian Naval Intelligence analyst, was later sentenced to life imprisonment for providing his Israeli contact with top secret American information on numerous Arab states.

    Thomas Alva Edison formally announces his invention of the phonograph, allowing people to record and play back sounds and conversations.
