Allen C. Guelzo

Dr. Allen C. Guelzo is the Senior Research Scholar in the Council of the Humanities and Director of the Initiative on Politics and Statesmanship in the James Madison Program at Princeton University. He is the author of several award-winning books on Lincoln and the Civil War, including Abraham Lincoln: Redeemer President, Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation: The End of Slavery in America, and Lincoln and Douglas: The Debates That Defined America. His book on the battle of Gettysburg, Gettysburg: The Last Invasion, also won a Lincoln Prize and was a New York Times bestseller in 2013.

Guelzo has been a fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies (1991–1992), the McNeil Center for Early American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania (1992–1993), and the Charles Warren Center for American Studies at Harvard University (1994–1995). He was a member of the National Council on the Humanities from 2006 to 2012. He currently lives in Paoli and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Debra.

David W. Blight is the Class of 1954 Professor of American History and Director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance & Abolition at Yale University.
