The Fort Edwards site is located along the northern boundary of Capon Bridge, in what is now West Virginia just north of U.S. 50. Only 20 miles west of Winchester, Virginia, the fort site is within a two hour ride from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, and within three hours from Pittsburgh and Richmond. Situated along the scenic Cacapon River in eastern Hampshire County, it remains surrounded by fields, forests and mountains much as it was in the 1750's when France and England were in their final showdown for possession of the North American continent.

What better way to compare one period of Florida history with another than through the daily living activities, everyday objects and pastimes of its people? At the Old Florida Museum games, weapons, foods and tools convey the story of how life changed and how it remained the same from pre-European times to pioneer times in Florida.

The Fairfax Stone is one of the oldest markers in the United States.  It marks marks the boundary between Maryland and West Virginia, the headwaters of the Potomac River, and the junction of Grant, Preston and Tucker Counties.

Fairfax Stone State Park, a 4-acre West Virginia State park, is located just off of Route 219 about four miles north of Thomas, WV.

In 1681, King Charles II of England gave Lord Hopton a 6-million-acre tract of land lying between the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers. The land eventually descended to Thomas, Lord Fairfax, Sixth Baron of Cameron, who petitioned King George II to survey his vast estate in 1733.

Finally in 1746, the original Fairfax Stone was placed to mark the "believed" headwaters of the Potomac River, delineating the once disputed boundary between West Virginia and Maryland.

San Diego’s Recruit Depot is the oldest operating Marine Corps installation on the West Coast. The quaint Spanish Colonial Revival ambience of the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) belies the fact that this sprawling facility on Barnett Avenue is the place where, since 1923, hundreds of thousands of young men have endured the rigors of boot camp and emerged with bodies toned by physical conditioning and minds proud in the knowledge that they are members of America’s number one fighting force. The museum and historical society are dedicated preserving the history of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and the history of Marines in San Diego.

On November 6, 1863, the Federal army of Brigadier General William W. Averell, in his second attempt to disrupt the Virginia-Tennessee Railroad at Salem, Virginia, faced again the Confederate troops of Brigadier General John Echols. Throughout the morning, Echols' smaller Confederate army held the high ground and blocked the highway with artillery, but in the afternoon was overwhelmed by the crushing advance of federal infantry on his left flank. Following the collapse of his lines, General Echols retreated south into Virginia with the remnants of his command.

North Hill is one of the largest residential historic districts in the State of Florida and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is protected by zoning regulations and governed by the City of Pensacola Architectural Review Board to ensure the preservation of its distinctive architectural character and compatibility of future development.

It was here in 1781 that the Spanish army under General Bernandro de Galvez defeated the English at Fort George, helping to turn the tide of American Revolution. The battle site, at the crest of a hill rising from the waterfront settlement, is now distinguished as the Fort George Memorial Park. A section of the Fort reconstructed on its original foundation marks the historic spot which lies within the present boundaries of the North Hill Preservation District.
