I applaud Patrick Allitt’s article. It should serve as a warning to novice theologians who attempt to make Christ in their own image. I learned in seminary that proper exegesis of scripture is an interpretation based on its original social and literary background. In that respect, eternal truths must be applicable to everyday modern situations.
