… Nor am I inclined at this age to the opinion that men and women who enjoy, or suffer along with, all the new gadgets are any better than their ancestors. A fool is still a fool whether he travels four miles an hour in an ox-cart or four hundred in an airplane. Wisdom is not measured by speed. Nor is gentleness exhibited in gadgets. The virtues which do honor to human nature and hold neighbors, communities, and nations together are not born of a multitude of things.
